18.RESTRICTIONSDURINGYOUREMPLOYMENT 18.1 CONFIDENTIALITY You must make sure that any information you have access to as a consequence of working at Byron is kept confidential. If you are found to be sharing this outside of work, it could result in formal disciplinary action being taken. 18.2WORKING FOR OTHER COMPANIES To ensure we comply with other legal and company restrictions, if you want to work outside of Byron in any capacity, you must notify your manager.This is so that we meet our obligations under the work time directive 1998.We also want to ensure that any other job does not affect your ability to perform your duties at Byron or damage our reputation or our interests. If you fail to comply with this, it could result in disciplinary action being taken. 49 HEALTH&SAFETYcontinued 17.7VIOLENCE ATWORK Byron deplores violent behaviour towards its employees and will take all reasonable steps to provide a working environment that is free from fear of assault or abuse, verbal or physical. 17.8 FIRE Please learn the fire rules and all the instructions relating to the outbreak of a fire. It could be the difference between life and death, so don’t just ignore them. If you see smoke or an outbreak of fire, raise the alarm immediately. Leave the premises and assemble at the appointed place.Wait there until you are told it is safe to return. Do not make any attempt to rescue personal possessions – nothing’s as valuable as your life. Never allow deliveries or rubbish to be stacked so that it obstructs a fire exit or prop open any fire doors. 17.9 SMOKING Smoking in all public areas and work places, including ‘back of house’ areas of the restaurant, is illegal this includes E-Cigarettes. If you are found smoking you could face a fine as well as disciplinary action. Please find out where you are allowed to smoke legally. 17.10 UNAUTHORISED ACTIVITIES Byron is a place of work, so you should put all your energy into doing your job efficiently and well. Please do not get involved in unauthorised activities, like gambling or drug taking – which are never permitted on Company premises. Treated as gross misconduct, so it is most important that you understand and comply. You can only drink alcohol on Company premises at functions or at times authorised by your manager. Otherwise, drinking alcohol or possessing or taking illegal drugs on company premises is forbidden and will be treated as gross misconduct. 48
