17.5 ACCIDENTS ATWORK If anyone is involved in any accident or sustains any injury, please notify your manager as soon as possible who will then record the details of the accident on our online system, FACT. 17.6 STRESS We want you to perform your duties to the best of your abilities. We know there are peaks and troughs in any job – some days you’re completely stressed out and others you’ve not got a care in the world. As far as work-related stress is concerned, at Byron you should be able to cope with the variations. However, as a job develops, some circumstances can change. If you feel that the demands of your job are getting beyond you, either temporarily or permanently, discuss the matter with your manager or the People Team at Berners Street. We understand that from time-to-time situations may arise where outside stress affects your work.We aim to react appropriately to all the circumstances as we know them. You should also recognise that colleagues and managers may also have similar problems from time-to-time, and you are expected to show consideration and sympathy in such situations. 47 17.HEALTH&SAFETY 46 17.1 COMPANY POLICY The Company’s Health and Safety Policy Statement is displayed on all our notice boards, so please read them as you will need to follow the procedures and guidance laid down. If you have serious concerns about your work environment or safety procedures that affect you or your team, please contact your manager in the first instance or contact the Technical Manager who is contactable at Berners Street. 17.2YOUR HEALTH AND SAFETY DUTIES You must take care of your own health and safety and make sure that you don’t put others in danger by what you do, or by what you don’t do. In brief, look after yourself and those around you by being careful and considerate. It is your responsibility to know and apply the health and safety guidelines and procedures relevant to your work (they’re on the notice board, so don’t just walk past them, read them). Don’t misuse any health and safety equipment and don’t flagrantly disregard any health and safety procedures, as this would be regarded as gross misconduct, and may result in disciplinary action being taken against you up to, and including, your dismissal. 17.3 HYGIENE Food is at the heart of our business. If you are involved with handling food or its preparation, you must take particular care with all aspects of cleanliness and hygiene. Our processes and procedures are there to protect our business, guests and you. Any breaches of our health and safety processes may result in disciplinary action being taken against you up to, and including, your dismissal. Tell your manager immediately if you’re suffering from any infection, particularly a bowel infection, or think you’re suffering from the effects of food poisoning. If you go abroad on holiday, let your manager know about any illness you may have suffered whilst away (or continuing). 17.4 FIRST AID In case there’s an accident at work, make sure you know where the First Aid boxes are kept. If you spot that the First Aid box is running low of supplies, let your manager know and they’ll re-stock it.
