19 7.FAMILYLEAVE 7.1 NOTIFYING PREGNANCY AND MATERNITY LEAVE Congratulations you are going to be a parent! At Byron, when you or your partner are pregnant we want to make sure that we take care of you and your baby in the best way possible, to help us do this please let your manager know that you are pregnant and when you are due to give birth, this is so an appropriate risk assessment can be carried if necessary and you can take the time to have a good read of the Family Leave Booklet. 7.2 ANTENATAL CLASSES In the instance that your antenatal class is scheduled at the same time as you have been rota’d to work please give your manager as much notice as possible to give enough time to find cover. 7.3 PATERNITY LEAVE All new fathers are entitled to take up to two consecutive weeks’ paternity leave. Leave can start on any day of the week on or following the date of birth or placement but must be taken within 56 days of birth date. 7.4 SHARED PARENTAL LEAVE Shared Parental Leave does what it says on the tin. It gives two parents the opportunity to share what is commonly known as maternity leave (52 weeks). 7.5 PARENTAL LEAVE All eligible parents can take a total of 18 weeks parental leave per child up to their 18th birthday, the maximum leave that you can take is 4 weeks for each child per year and this must be taken as whole weeks rather than individual days. Parental leave is unpaid.You may use your holidays but you must have accrued them. Please refer to the Family Leave Booklet for eligibility. 7.6 ADOPTION LEAVE We are fully supportive of anyone who is looking to adopt a child or already has begun the process. Adoption leaves works in a very similar way to maternity leave. For more details about all the different types of Family Leave can be found in the Family Leave Booklet. 18 8.SICKNESS If you are unwell and unable to come in to work, please give your line manager a minimum of 2 hours’ notice before you are due in.That way they can arrange cover and you can concentrate on getting better. 8.1TIME OFF FOR SEVEN OR LESSTHAN 7 DAYS If you are ill for 7 or less than 7 days, then there is no need for you to produce a fit note from the doctors. However, when you return to work you must: • Go and see your manager on duty when you arrive • They will give you a Return To Work interview and a Company Self-Certification Form to fill in that then needs to be uploaded into fourth. • Payment of sick pay will depend on your Company Self Certification form being filled in 8.2TIME OFF FOR MORETHAN 7 DAYS If you are ill for more than 7 calendar days: • You will be requested to produce a valid doctor’s certificate to your manager and if you are still unwell when your doctor’s certificate expires, you will need to provide your manager with a further doctor’s certificate for any further period of absence. • We won’t be able to pay you any sick pay for any absence of this nature not validated by a doctor. • Although we know that you’re Ok, we may need your doctor to sign you fit for work before we can agree your fit to work and we can issue you with hours or shifts. • If you are absent for four weeks or longer, we may request for your manager or someone from the People Team to meet with you to see how you are doing. If necessary we may require you to undergo a medical examination by a company doctor or an occupational health specialist, this is so we can identify any reasonable adjustments that may need to be made, to ensure we are providing you with the necessary support required to assist your return to work and continued support for you in the work place.
