13 12 4.GENERALSTANDARDScontinued Under the working time directive, it is stated that you should get a rest of at least 11 hours in a 24 hour period. However for those of you who work to a rota, your work is classed as ‘shift work’ within the statutory regulations for working hours. The pattern of your shifts may result in you not receiving standard statutory daily rest breaks but, to compensate, we will arrange the rota so that you receive equivalent gaps between duties, so overall you will get the right amount of breaks. Whilst working long shifts, breaks are important to ensure you have time to recharge. Please ensure you take the breaks that you are entitled to.Your break entitlement is outlined in your contract. You should only take a break at times agreed with your line manager. Please ensure you start and finish your breaks promptly to ensure it does not impact on the rest of your team. Your health, safety and well-being are important to us so if you think that you are not getting proper breaks, please raise the matter with your manager. If you have spoken to them and you still feel that this has not been resolved, please contact anyone in the People team as per the Hamburger tree and they will be in touch with you. 4.5 FLEXIBLEWORKING We want all our employees to be able to balance the demands of their jobs and their private lives happily. We understand that you may have commitments outside of work and can find it difficult to have a work life balance. To help with this, we offer all our employees the right to request to work more flexibly.
