Tapping in to top talent

Every team member plays a part in your business (or why would you have hired them?). But it’s safe to say there are those few key individuals that can make a stronger impact. More recently being branded ‘Transformational Talent’, these people tend to exhibit a desired balance of key attributes relating to both experience and capability (the ability to problem solve and think strategically), and taking action due to their self-driven, passionate natures.

According to Indeed, just 1% of employees are responsible for 10% of company output, essentially meaning they’re on average 10x more productive than everyone else! If this is true, these people need attracting to your team – and there are a couple of things you can keep in mind to achieve this.

Firstly, remember that transformational people will always have options, and their primary motivator for making a move is finding a business with a vision and mission they are aligned to.

They want to work with inspirational teams and brands, so ensure information on your culture and exciting projects and challenges are consistently fed in to your attraction content. This could even include a bio or video of the hiring manager!

Secondly (and yes, we know it seems obvious), make it easy for them to find you! 64% of top transformational talent would feel more confident if they found jobs themselves, rather than being contacted about an opportunity, as they feel it will lead to a more successful role. On that note, every minute added to your application process loses you 4% of applicants – and these guys won’t hang around to complete lengthily application processes!

You’ve been framed!

Broadbean recently advised that messages from employee advocates are twice as trusted as those coming from a CEO! And with other research suggesting that use of video in jobs increases likelihood of application by 30%, it really is a win-win.

And there’s no limits to how this system can be used. Of course, there’s the core job posting element which helps you stand out against your competition, especially when you consider candidates spend an average of four minutes watching a video vs. an average of 14 seconds reading a text only JD! But there’s so much more too. Recording videos at head office to send out to store teams, interview feedback, internal messages – the uses are vast.

A New member of the Clarks team?

No - just Stella spending the day with Clarks at Retail Appointment Live which was held at St Pancras in London earlier this month.

Not only did the team speak to loads of great candidates for their store roles, there were plenty for their Head Office in Somerset too. The event was a huge success with over 800 eager candidates attending.
